Resolution Statement Regarding Election Contest
Tonight, the CCISD Board of Trustees voted to approve a resolution finding it serves the District’s public purpose to extend a defense in an election contest on behalf of the CCISD early voting clerk as an unnamed defendant/contestee in the lawsuit styled Misty Dawson v. Jessica Cejka. The allegations in the lawsuit are exclusively against CCISD and its administration of the May 2022 trustee election. The remedy sought is for the District to conduct a new election, which the District estimates would cost at least $114,000. The District’s insurance carrier has agreed to extend a defense, recognizing the clear interest of the District in defending the administration of its election. This action is not intended as a taking of sides between candidates. Rather, the District’s intention is to take responsibility for its election process and to have a voice in protecting its interests.
