Clear Creek ISD School Board Election Update

The results for the Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustee Election remain unofficial until the election canvas which must be held on May 18, 2022, or earlier. The time between election day and the official results allows election staff to accept absentee ballots that are postmarked no later than May 7, 2022, provisional ballots verified by the county, and overseas and military ballots. This time is also an opportunity to allow voters who have had their absentee ballots rejected due to state requirements time to fix the errors and have their ballots accepted.

Absentee Ballot Update

As of this update, Clear Creek ISD Elections Office received 2,426 total absentee ballots by mail which now include those that were received on Monday, May 9, 2022. Of those total absentee ballots, 390 currently remain rejected due to one or more of the following:

  1. The Carrier Envelope was not signed.

  2. When the signature on the Application for Ballot by mail was compared to the signature on the Carrier Envelope, it could not be immediately determined that the signatures were made by the same person.

  3. A required Statement of Residence was not included in the Carrier Envelope returned to the Early Voting Clerk.

  4. The Carrier Envelope did not contain a Texas Driver’s License Number, Texas Personal Identification Number, Texas Election Identification Certificate Number or the Last 4 digits of the Social Security Number; OR
the number provided did not match the number associated with voter registration records as provided by the County’s Voter Registrar; OR
if the voter was not issued one of the documents with the required number and did not indicate this fact on the Carrier Envelope.

  5. The Carrier Envelope contained incomplete information with respect to a witness.

If the voter provided an email or a phone number, the Early Voting Ballot Board has contacted them to come to the CCISD Education Support Center to make the required corrections/additions so those ballots can be counted when the Early Voting Ballot Board reconvenes on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 4 p.m. The deadline to cure defects in ballots is Friday, May 13, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. As of this update, nine voters completed the required information and those ballots will be counted when the Early Voting Ballot Board reconvenes.

With the change in voter identification requirements for mail in ballots, approximately 12% of absentee ballots were rejected during the March 2022 primaries in Texas. For Clear Creek ISD Board of Trustee Elections, approximately 16% of absentee ballots have been rejected thus far due to the new requirements.

Since Election Day and as of this update, 186 absentee ballots will be counted. These include any ballots received on Monday as well as ballots that were pending verification with either Harris County or Galveston County and have been authenticated, and any formerly rejected ballots that have been resolved.

Provisional, Overseas and Military Ballot Update

There are 16 provisional ballots which will be provided to the Early Voting Ballot Board when it reconvenes. In addition, 17 absentee ballots were sent to members in the military and overseas voters. The deadline for those ballots to be returned is Friday, May 13, 2022, at 4:30 p.m.
