Ross Elementary in Clear Creek ISD Selected for Disney Musicals in Schools Program

Ross Elementary in Clear Creek ISD was selected by Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) as one of only four schools in the Houston area to participate in the 2025-2026 Disney Musicals in Schools program. This is the inaugural year for TUTS to bring this initiative to Houston through the Disney Theatrical Group, joining more than 22 program sites across the U.S. and U.K.

The school went through a competitive, multi-phase application process in the fall that culminated with 32 total third through fifth grade students earning a spot in the 30-minute abridged Disney KIDS version of Frozen. This then launched a 17-week partnership this semester with TUTS teaching artists to support Ross Elementary staff in producing, directing and choreographing the full show.

“I’ve had a passion for musical theatre since I was a kid, and I know how much theatre changed my life,” said Baileigh Martin, director and creator of the Ross musical theatre club. “We’ve seen students go from barely talking to having the most vibrant personality on stage. The confidence, leadership, and sense of community they gain carries into academics and every part of their lives,” she added.

Developed by Disney Theatrical Group, Disney Musicals in Schools is designed to create sustainable theatre programs in under-resourced elementary schools, providing students and educators with access to the arts and hands-on musical theatre experience.

“I don’t think the students have fully grasped the magnitude of how amazing this opportunity actually is,” said Martin. “I hope they can go out after fifth grade with a passion for theatre that allows them to continue growing their love or opens doors for new pathways.”

In addition to Martin, the full team from Ross includes music director Jason Caillier, choreographer Mallory Keehn and stage manager Danielle Magnan. CCISD high school theatre and technical theatre teachers have also committed to partnering to provide additional support.

Ross Elementary will host two community showcase performances on May 13 and 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria at 2401 W. Main St., League City, TX 77573. The program will culminate with a Student Share Celebration at the Hobby Center on May 18, where students will perform a number from Frozen and a combined piece alongside the three other selected Houston schools.
