Profiles of a CCISD Graduate: Ke'Shawn Jones, Clear Creek High School

At Clear Creek High School, Ke’Shawn Jones has made his mark as an athlete, mentor and leader who understands the value of perseverance.

A well-rounded student-athlete, Ke’Shawn has been involved in wrestling, powerlifting and football throughout his time at Clear Creek. Looking back, he describes his high school experience as a steady climb, with challenges along the way but even greater moments of progress.

“I would say my journey has been a slow incline,” Ke’Shawn said. “There’s been a couple of downs, but the ups I’ve had since 2022 and being a Wildcat have outweighed all of that.”

Through athletics, Ke’Shawn learned lessons in discipline, teamwork and commitment. He said his coaches pushed him to grow, often holding him to a high standard because they knew what he was capable of achieving.

“I like to lead by example,” Ke’Shawn said. “My favorite saying is, ‘pressure makes diamonds.’”

That mindset helped him reach one of the biggest moments of his high school career: winning the powerlifting state championship after not being able to compete the year before. The accomplishment represented more than athletic success. It was proof of his perseverance and ability to rise after disappointment.

When challenges became difficult, Ke’Shawn said he stayed focused on his “why”: his parents.

“My mother and father are still working,” Ke’Shawn said. “That’s my why, and I won’t stop until they never have to worry.”

That motivation has shaped the way he approached school, athletics and leadership. Through personal adversity, he has developed a strong sense of purpose and independence. Growing up in a tough environment, he said he saw others become defined by their circumstances and knew he wanted a different path for himself.

“I didn’t want to be a product of that,” Ke’Shawn said. “Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve had a purpose.”

Ke’Shawn has also shown leadership through the Teacher Education Training program in Clear Creek ISD, where he served as a student-coach at League City Intermediate. Working with younger students gave him a new perspective on mentorship and the impact one person can have on another.

“I learned how much I needed it as a child,” Ke’Shawn said. “I wish I had the opportunity to have a PAL or TET teacher. I think I would’ve had someone to connect to.”

The experience also helped him understand that leadership does not look the same for everyone. Working with younger students taught him that some people just need encouragement, guidance and words of support to fully understand and grow.

“Everything doesn’t need to be led by example,” Ke’Shawn said. “Some need to hear it to understand. Everyone’s different.”

When reflecting on who has had the biggest impact on his growth, Ke’Shawn points to Clear Creek High School Principal Ashley Orr. He said their relationship has meant a great deal to him because of the support she has shown throughout his high school years.

“She’s always supported me throughout high school, and that’s rare,” Ke’Shawn said. “She’s the face of Creek, and the fact that we have a great relationship means a lot to me.”

After graduation, Ke’Shawn plans to celebrate the milestone of making it through high school and then focus on the next chapter of his education and athletic journey at Doane University.

“I’m focusing on my final four to five years in school and making the most out of the opportunity I’ve been blessed with at Doane University,” Ke’Shawn said.

For younger students trying to find their place, overcome challenges or become leaders themselves, Ke’Shawn encourages them to keep going, stay grounded in their purpose and not give up when things get hard.

“I would say give it to God, but you also have to not give up,” Ke’Shawn said. “No matter how I was feeling, I looked back on what my ‘why’ was. When I felt like giving up, I thought about the long-term goal and where I wanted to be.”
