Board Items of Interest

Newly re-elected Trustees Jamieson Mackay (District 2) and Arturo Sanchez (District 3) were sworn in at the start of the regular session.

The Board nominated and unanimously approved the election of Jonathan Cottrell as Board President, Jessica Cejka as Board Vice President, and Jamieson Mackay as Board Secretary.

Board Recognitions

Superintendent Dr. Karen Engle led the pledge with Armand Bayou’s Lennox Blackwell (fourth grade) and Ferguson Elementary’s Addison Richter (second grade). Following the pledge, they read the district’s Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Value Statement for the Board and attending community members. Lennox and Addison are national finalists for the 2026 National PTA Reflections contest. To see their winning work, click here.

Westbrook Intermediate’s Rilyn Snell (eight grade) was recognized for her second-place finish in the Letters About Literature state contest sponsored by the Texas Library and Archives Foundation. Rilyn won $200 with her letter to author Jennifer Niven about her book, All the Bright Places.

The CCISD Board of Trustees recognized 13 of this year’s Career and Technical Education Student Organization state award winners and their advisors. The Career Development Project team from Clear Lake High School made it the top 20 at the international level. Clear Brook High School HOSA advisor, Zenia Ridley, was named 2026 Outstanding HOSA Advisor of Texas.     

A total of 37 NASA HUNCH students were recognized for presenting their innovative ideas to NASA as project finalists. The team finalist award from NASA is the highest award in the annual nationwide HUNCH competition. To watch a short video about the HUNCH program, click here.

Margaret Kerr, a junior from Clear Springs High School, and Max McClosky, a senior from Clear Creek High School, were recognized for qualifying for state in the UIL Golf competition out of approximately 400 state qualifiers.

Items of Interest

The PTA Annual Report was presented by the Clear Creek Community Council of PTA’s President Lisa Polansky.

A district update was given by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Engle on the recent Guiding Lights Retirement Luncheon held in honor of this year’s retirees, the upcoming graduations and possible schedule changes, and the Board of Trustees’ election results for District 2 and District 3.

The Consent Agenda was approved unanimously with Item 13 pulled by Trustee Mackay to be highlighted separately. After consideration, Item 13 was also unanimously approved.             

Item 13 – Consider Approval of the Service Agreement with Communities in Schools - Bay Area, Inc. for the 2026-2027 School Year.

The Adoption of the FY 2026 - 2027 Budget Goals, Assumptions and Priorities was amended to add to the budget challenges: unfunded mandates provided from state legislation. The agenda item was unanimously approved as amended. To view the full budget presentation, click here.

The Board unanimously approved the use of capital projects funds for transportation related projects.

The purchase of school buses through ILA vendors was approved unanimously.

The Board determined with unanimous consent that the budgetary and warranty limitations do not permit the district to purchase or retrofit buses to be equipped with three-point seat belts as mandated under Transportation Code §547.701(e)(1).
