Superintendent MessageDear CCISD Staff and Families,

I am writing to update you regarding COVID-19 matters and to wish you a healthy Labor Day weekend.

First, I would like to thank our employees, students, and families for working together as CCISD, like school systems across Texas and our nation, addresses the challenges associated with COVID-19.

Second, I am asking for parents to help us even further. Please, keep children at home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness or if they are a close contact of a member in their household. In accordance with requirements from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Clear Creek ISD will send home students or staff who are exhibiting any symptom related to COVID-19 unless it is connected to an existing medical condition.
The exclusion is for ten days unless the individual has a clearance from a licensed medical professional or tests negative with a PCR/Molecular lab-based COVID-19 test.

Also, a student who is a close contact of another member of their household may not return for a minimum of ten days even with a negative test, and only after the close contact exposure has ended. This requirement is based on information from the Texas Education Agency and public health officials relating to the greater risk associated with household-based close contacts. This parent resource provides additional details regarding when to keep your children home from school.

With the recent transition of CCISD from stage 4 to stage 3, we continue to implement additional measures to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19. These measures include opening additional areas to secondary students to allow for more social distancing during lunch. Support staff members are being brought in to monitor distancing during lunch at intermediate schools. Elementary teachers are adjusting “carpet time” gatherings by having some students remain at desks while other students gather on the carpet with physical distancing. Schools are restructuring indoor club, grade-level, and school-wide gatherings to support physical distancing when possible.

Staff members in our elementary schools continue to review mask preferences submitted by parents in order to monitor consistent, proper usage of face coverings to students whose parents prefer that they wear face coverings. Seat assignments are driven by multiple variables, including instructional needs and masking preferences. Parents of students in our intermediate schools are also invited to submit face covering preference forms so that intermediate schools can further support the consistent, proper usage of face coverings by students whose parents prefer that they wear face coverings. The preference form is available through the Online Form section in Skyward Family Access.

As a reminder, the school district cannot mandate face coverings. The legal challenges surrounding mask orders have not been legally settled. There is currently no court order that applies statewide or in Harris County which prevents enforcement of the Governor’s prohibition on mask mandates. In fact, a Texas Supreme Court decision has indicated that the Governor’s Executive Order remains in effect until cases are resolved through the appellate process. We do not need a mandate to follow the health guidelines that work. I urge our staff and students to wear a face covering indoors, wash their hands frequently, and stay home if ill.

On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Clear Creek ISD will launch a remote conferencing system to allow students who are home due to COVID-19 to receive instructional support in a live setting. For details, including registration information, please visit this web page for more web page for more information.

If we continue to work together, our schools will remain open, and our students will learn and thrive.

Thank you,

Eric Williams, Ed.D.
