Prinicpal Debbie JohnsonDeborah Johnson, who received her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and her master’s degree from the University of Houston–Clear Lake, brings nearly twenty years of experience in education to her position as the new principal of Bay Elementary.

Johnson came to Bay in February from her position as principal of Mossman Elementary, but she actually began her career in education as a first and second grade teacher and instructional literacy coach for the Bay Eagles.

With nine years of administration experience, Johnson said she loves being around children and “strategically helping plan for their happiness, growth, and success.”

Johnson is particularly excited about Bay Elementary entering year two of the Leader in Me program, a school improvement model that embodies a holistic approach to education involving student empowerment and academic results.

”I look forward to continuing the journey [of Leader in Me], adding possibilities as we grow leadership and independence in students and staff,” she said.

Johnson, whose two daughters grew up in CCISD, said that a “family feeling” is what sets Clear Creek apart from other large school districts.

“Even with 27 elementary schools, there is a common focus; students that need to change campuses can feel confident that they know what to expect when arriving at their new school,” she said. “Core values are at the heart of all we do, and it shows.”

In her spare time, Johnson enjoys snow skiing in Colorado, bike riding on the trails in Seabrook, and spending time with her grandchildren, Charlie and Evelyn. Her favorite educational quote is; “A teacher’s touch lasts a lifetime.”
