About 150 future teachers got a taste of what awaits them in terms of professional learning at the CCISD TET Fall Teacher Symposium at the CCISD Learner Support Center on Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Juniors and seniors from Clear Creek ISD high schools attended sessions held by leaders from across the district on topics ranging from behavior management and technology to engaging ways of teaching math and how to effectively build relationships.

According to Stephanie McBride, Executive Director of Professional Learning, it all began with an idea from the Teacher Education Training (TET) teachers a year ago.

“They wanted to give their students the experience of teacher professional learning so they reached out to me,” McBride said. “Students get a chance to meet district leaders, learn about various educator skills and interact in a professional learning environment.”

This event is offered as a part of the Education and Training courses, which fall under the Career and Technical Education classes offered at all five comprehensive high schools in CCISD.

The “Really Cool Math” session was especially informative for Clear Falls High School senior Eden Chambers, who appreciated learning about how to be creative and engaging future students.

“It was good to hear things I haven’t heard in a while like there’s multiple ways to learn something,” she said.

Clear Falls senior Sadie Martin called the event an amazing experience and especially appreciated how passionate district leaders were about their respective topics.

“They are all so enthusiastic and you can tell they love what they do,” she said.

The next symposium will be held in February 2020.
