Students from the Clear Creek ISD graduating class of 2019 hosted more than 200 “over 60” special guests to celebrate the 10th Annual Senior to Senior Prom in style. The evening, themed “Fly Me to the Moon,” also provided the perfect setting to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, as many of the guests could recollect this historic time period for the nation.

Each year, soon-to-be graduates representing all seven CCISD high schools host this unique prom to thank this special segment of the community for their support of their education journey and let them know how valued they are.

“It was heartwarming to see such wonderful young people greeting us, serving our food, checking for refills, smiling,” said prom guest, Peggy Garcia. “I could tell their attitudes were genuine.”

CCISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Smith kicked off the evening thanking the high school seniors and welcomed the guests. “The Apollo anniversary calls to mind how having the Johnson Space Center in our backyard has brought incredible opportunities and growth to our District,” he said. “But it’s not just about astronauts. It takes engineers, accountants and IT professionals to explore new frontiers. In CCISD we are growing the next generation of explorers and you see them all around you here tonight.”

Clear Falls High School seniors Skyler Antwi and Anita Parrott served as Masters of Ceremony for the evening.

“This was so much fun,” said Antwi. “We had such a great time visiting and dancing with the guests. It just made me feel so happy!”

The Clear Falls High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Russell Zavalla, entertained the crowd during dinner while Clear Lake High School senior Zach Neal was DJ during the dancing portion of the evening.

Thanks to the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Public Information Office and Exhibits team, guests had the opportunity to enjoy tributes to the iconic moon landing on display throughout the Clear View High School gymnasium. JSC also provided posters and decals commemorating both the 60th anniversary of NASA and the Apollo 11 milestone for every guest.

The menu for the evening, planned and prepared by CCISD Executive Chef Robert Maccarone, was an homage to the original celebration menu served to the Apollo 11 Astronauts when they met with President Nixon upon their return.

The printed program also featured “Memories of the Moon Landing” that had been gathered in advance from Senior to Senior Prom invitees. “I was at the University of Santo Tomas High School at that time, back in the Philippines, and the entire student body excitedly watched the Apollo 11 moon landing on the big screen,” wrote Ana Maria Nolasco. “Little did I know that my husband and I would fortunately working for, and retiring from, the U.S. Space Program many years later.”

Antwi and Parrott crowned guests, Susiee Groves and Paul Casinger, the 2019 Prom Queen and King, respectively.
