The Alpha Park is a learning community that surrounds Alpha’s newly-renovated home-base in the district’s Learner Support Center. Here, students will be able to explore the many unique offerings of the Alpha program in an expanded instructional format.

Alpha students will continue to enjoy the learning opportunities the University of Houston Clear Lake campus has to offer through nature areas, field biology excursions and special areas located on campus. The Alpha program is also looking forward to forming new partnerships with several programs offered at Clear Lake High School.

“Our GT family is so excited about our new Alpha learning space,” said Glenda Holder, Director of Advanced Academics and Gifted and Talented. “We are so thankful for all of the support the University of Houston Clear Lake community has given the Alpha program over the past 20 years and look forward to continuing this partnership with many wonderful opportunities ahead. Our possibilities for learning are limitless.”

In the Alpha program, fourth and fifth grade gifted students explore a variety of diverse instructional opportunities by attending classes on-campus one semester and an off-campus GT mini-course the other semester.

Features of the new Alpha space include:

Classrooms – Each Alpha classroom will have the same technology offered in CCISD classrooms, storage for long term projects, and places to display Alpha student work.

Theater – Students will have access to a theater space each week, allowing for the Spotlight class to include stage design, lighting and sound.

Science Areas – The Learner Support Center will contain multiple science lab areas for classes to meet to conduct experiments and apply scientific learning in a variety of ways.

Technology Labs – Technology learning spaces will be used for technology-based courses like Photography and Coding.

Maker Space – This is a space designed for students to create representations of their learning in many different areas and explore new ideas.

Common Area – This space will be used for lunch and Alpha student collaboration in high interest groups and other Alpha classes.

Gymnasium – The gymnasium provides a large area for Alpha students to conduct experiments, create performances and hold competitions.
