The 2018 Clear Creek ISD Spelling Bee champion has been named. Greene Elementary fourth grader, Alexander Amalaman, won the first place trophy on February 17, 2018. The District Spelling Bee took place at Mossman Elementary School with participants representing 25 elementary and nine intermediate schools in CCISD.

After 23 rounds of close competition, Amalaman ultimately reigned victorious after spelling his last two words in a row correctly, which were “diminish” and “confinement”. Fifth grader Isaac Pan of Bauerschlag Elementary came in second place.

The next round of competition for Amalaman will be at the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee which will be televised live on April 7, 2018. From there, the top two spellers will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the nation’s long-standing educational competition since 1925. The two National Spelling Bee qualifiers earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to represent Houston in May 2018.
