Advanced Academics
CCISD is committed to closing the opportunity gap by recruiting and retaining students who are likely to succeed in advanced coursework. CCISD recommends that learners challenge themselves by participating in advanced academic programs.
In Advanced Academics, there is an increase in rigor with an emphasis on critical knowledge and skills designed to prepare students for college and careers. Taking advanced courses in intermediate and high school is the best way to prepare for college admission and college success. CCISD has a genuine commitment to preparing ALL students for challenging academic work. Honors and AP courses have open enrollment, and students are encouraged to reap the benefits of these offerings.
Why Consider Advanced Academics?
- Taking a rigorous curriculum in high school is the best predictor of students’ ability to complete a bachelor's degree.
- The number and quality of advanced courses a learner takes is more significant than GPA or class rank for predicting college success.
- Students taking more advanced courses score about 2.4 points higher on the ACT composite than students taking standard graduation plan courses.
- Students taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school have higher GPAs in college than students who do not take AP Courses.
- Learners who have taken AP courses generally score higher on the SAT than learners who have not taken AP courses.
- The number of advanced courses a learner takes in high school may be a factor considered by a college when making admission decisions.
Grades 6-8 OMEGA/Gifted and Talented Program Design
Each grade level has a team of teachers trained to work with advanced academics students. The academic core of the OMEGA/GT program is language arts, social studies and, in some cases, science. Opportunities in math are available to fit individual students' needs. Interdisciplinary curriculum is developed to challenge students while preparing them for the rigor of Honors and Advanced Placement classes. Critical reading, writing and research skills serve as foundation of Omega coursework.

Registration will close at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31
TASK 1: Register for the AP Exam
You will use your Sudent ID# as your Username and your student pin # (including two leading zeroes) as your password.
If you need assistance with the registration process, please contact the Campus College Center/Counseling Center.
TASK 2: Pay for the AP Exam
Cost
The cost per exam is $98 (Capstone Research and Capstone Seminar are $146 per exam).
Students who qualify for a fee reduction will pay $21 for each exam purchased (Capstone Research and Capstone Seminar are $69 per exam). To qualify for a fee reduction, families MUST complete or update the Free & Reduced Meal program application before registering for AP exams. Please note: Free & Reduced Meal program applications may take up to 10 school days to process and approve. Click here to access the application for the Free & Reduced Meal program.
Payment
Families are encouraged to make payments using a credit card. Payment may be made by credit card on the website at the time of registration. There is a 4.16% transaction fee for each credit card purchase. If you need to pay for exams using cash or checks (made payable to the name student’s high school), please contact your campus Lead Counselor to make arrangements.

An additional $45 proctoring fee will be assessed for AP exams for courses that are not taught on the student’s high school home campus.

ALL payments must be received by the campus College Center/Counseling Center no later than 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31.

If a student needs to purchase a Year-long or Fall semester AP course exam after October 31st, the student MUST contact the campus Lead Counselor. The cost of purchasing an exam after this deadline will be an additional $40.

If you see an AP testing conflict (i.e., two exams at the same time, UIL event), please contact your campus Lead Counselor. The Lead Counselor will work with you to find alternative testing options.
Refund policy: The College Board does charge a fee per exam for unused/canceled exams.
- $49 is non-refundable per exam canceled or not taken by the student ($89 is non-refundable per exam if a late exam was purchased). $21 is non-refundable per exam canceled or not taken by a student who qualifies for a fee reduction. Additionally, a $19 charge per exam canceled or unused will be added to the student’s Skyward for students who qualify for a fee reduction.

TASK 2: Classroom Confirmation
- Log into your College Board account to confirm you have joined the AP classroom for all ordered exams.
- If you have not joined AP classroom, please see your AP teacher for the course-specific Join Code.
