Biotechnology

Biotechnology uses the basic ingredients of life to make new products. It is both a cutting-edge technology and an applied science. With new discoveries being made every day, there are many opportunities to be a part of the action.

Students taking Biotechnology begin to prepare for work in medical, clinical, science and/or law enforcement forensic laboratories. They learn basic lab methods, including preparing buffers, centrifugation and spectrophotometry.

Advanced Biotechnology enriches student knowledge of agricultural, environmental, economic and political roles of bioenergy and biological remediation. Nanoscience and nanotechnology in biomedical research are also explored.

The Practicum in Biotechnology course offers students the opportunity to participate in an internship where they will work alongside a mentor. Students may also pursue an individual laboratory project in biotechnology.

Courses:

  • Biotechnology I
  • Biotechnology II
  • Practicum in Biotechnology
  • Biotechnology Independent Study Mentorship Project-Based Research

CCISD's Biotechnology program is located at Clear Falls High School, but is open to all qualified students in the district.
