The Clear Creek Independent School District has revised its phasing plans to rebuild League City Elementary, which allows students to get into their new school sooner than originally expected. When the 2017 CCISD Bond program was approved in May, the plan was to rebuild League City Elementary next to the existing building in a phased approach to work around student instruction in 2020.

“The original plan would have extended construction an extra six months since contractors would have had to work around students,” said Paul Miller, director of facility services. “This revised plan allows us to move all students from League City Elementary next door to the now vacant Clear Path building, freeing up contractors to move full speed ahead on the rebuild.” Additionally, instead of the original start date of 2020, the district moved the project up to 2018.

The Clear Path Alternative School was vacated over the summer and the program moved to a building in Webster. Students and staff will move to the temporary site beginning in January 2018 so the rebuild of the League City Elementary can begin. Based on this new plan, the new League City Elementary will open in August 2019.

“It is exciting to see this project move forward so that our children can experience a new school environment,” said Xan Wood, principal. “We have been talking with the students about the transition to the building across the street, and how this short-term situation will allow for long-term success. We are working with district personnel to ensure we have the essential space over at Clear Path to maintain a normal school schedule.”

The CCISD Board of Trustees approved the VLK Architect’s design of $46.9 million League City Elementary in October. The design is based off the recent McWhirter Elementary school rebuild project.
