Anna Jane Hilbrich can never remember a time when she has not valued helping others. This spirit of giving has been the foundation of a vision that started when she was just 11 years old.

Now a sophomore at Clear Creek High School, Hilbrich is the co-founder of Dolls For All, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children in the form of American Girl Dolls. Since 2013, she and her partner work year-round to raise money to donate dolls for those in difficult situations across Houston and Louisiana.

What started out as a goal to buy six American Girl Dolls through bake sale fundraisers five years ago has now grown into a fully-functioning nonprofit that has donated more than 225 dolls to deserving children in difficult situations. The organization raises money in various ways, including monetarily through their website, Amazon Smile account contributions, large fundraising events, and also accepts donations of gently used American Girl Dolls and their accessories from the public.

“Thinking back, we had a crazy idea for fifth graders, but I think it is important for younger students to know they can have an impact and that they are not too young to help people,” said Hilbrich. “It has been so rewarding to see how we’ve grown as an organization and the success we have had in spreading love in our community and brightening as many lives as possible.”

Hilbrich recently donated 28 dolls to each Clear Creek ISD elementary counselor for them to use with students at school. Along with the continued partnership with the school district, donations are made through other Houston-area organizations, including Generation One, Child Advocates of Houston and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

“I have been lucky enough to have the chance to deliver dolls directly to some of the children who we donate to,” said Hilbrich. “Seeing their reactions and how happy they are when they get to open their brand new American Girl Doll is something I will never forget and truly makes it all worthwhile.”

After graduation, Hilbrich hopes to continue growing Dolls For All while also pursuing a law degree. Her goal in life is to be an advocate for children in the court room and beyond.

On Saturday, September 30, Hilbrich will be hosting a Mums For All event to raise money to buy American Girl Dolls for local children impacted by Hurricane Harvey. She is inviting all CCISD high schools students to come make their own homecoming mums and garters for either themselves or to donate to someone who otherwise would not be able to buy one. All supplies will be provided and there is no minimum donation to attend.
