Emergency Communications

The Office of Communications is committed to providing families, the community, and the media prompt and accurate information in the event of a school emergency. While we certainly do not anticipate incidents that would lead to emergency communications, we certainly must be prepared to communicate with all stakeholders. Here are the ways we communicate with the public in an emergency:

Email, Phone and Text

CCISD has a service called SchoolMessenger. This system updates every night to ensure any changes to student contact information is current. SchoolMessenger allows us to email, phone and text parents/guardians in the event of an emergency. We will not use text messaging for general outreach messages. General Questions and Answers:

Q. How do I receive text messages?
A. At the time of enrollment, parents and guardians should receive an introductory text message prompting you to opt-in to receiving messages. It may take up to 42 hours upon enrollment to receive the text message. If you do not receive the initial text message, you can subscribe to text messages at any time by sending a text which says “Y” or “Yes” or “Optin” or “Subscribe” to  67587. The cell phone number must have be on record with your student information.

Q. How do I opt-out of receiving text messages?
A. Recipients not wishing to receive text messages to a particular number can simply text “Stop” to  67587 at any time or opt-out online at www.schoolmessenger.com/txtmsg.

Q. From what number will these text messages originate?
A. Text messages will come from  67587. Please save this number and program it as CCISD so you can quickly recognize this number as the official source of our messages.

Parents will be able to select the way they want us to communicate with them via text, email and phone.  Parents can log into their Skyward Family Access Account and click on the "Skylert" tab along the left side. You will be able to select your preferred method of contact for school notifications, as well as update preferences and contact information at any time and as often as needed.

Media Outlets

The Office of Communications works closely with the media in a school emergency as this often times is the main source of information for the public at-large. In the event of an emergency, CCISD Office of Communications has staff prepared to respond to media interviews.

Any information that is provided through SchoolMessenger in an emergency will also be posted on the district website at www.ccisd.net.

Questions and Answers

We recognize the need to communicate and answer questions in the event of an emergency. If the emergency involves a particular campus, often times their phone lines are overrun with calls while campus staff is handling the crisis at hand. We recommend parents contact the District’s main office at 281-284-0000 as we will have staff available to share information.
