The celebrations of progress on Bond 2017 projects continue in Clear Creek ISD with the recent ribbon cutting and open house ceremony at Clear Lake Intermediate School. District, school and community leaders gathered on October 10, 2019, to mark the completion of major renovations to the 47-year-old campus.

As part of the Bond 2017 Program, which was passed in May of that same year, Clear Lake Intermediate was equipped with eight new classrooms and two new science labs. The additional wing of classrooms made possible the removal of nine portable buildings. The District was also able to add fencing around the school’s track, provide new weight room equipment, make necessary repairs and replacements to the band hall and fine arts foundation, and sub systems such as fire alarms and air handling units.

As the school’s Leadership Development Corps presented the colors, the Clear Lake Intermediate orchestra played the National Anthem to open the ceremony. Student leaders helped do the honors in the actual ribbon cutting to the new wing and proudly toured guests through the new spaces.

“We are excited to share that it’s not just the building structure that is changing,” said Principal Lonnie Leal. “As you’ll see through our confident student leaders here tonight, our students are growing and experiencing new development as well because of The Leader In Me coming to our campus this year.”

The Leader In Me is a whole-school transformation model that prepares students to become life-ready leaders. The program’s implementation at Clear Lake Intermediate and several other CCISD campuses is made possible through the financial support of Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital.

The original estimated cost of the project was $8,459,810. With the addition of a post-proposal addendum of $1,518,725 that added in the conversion and renovation of existing science labs, the total project cost was $9,318,417. The project was awarded to architect IBI Group and Division One Construction.
