Programs Offered

Clear Creek ISD offers Gifted and Talented educational programs in all of the district's schools. The District uses a variety of instructional models for gifted students, including pull-out sessions, cluster grouping, mixed-ability classes with differentiated instruction, acceleration and mini-courses offered at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, Armand Bayou Nature Center and NASA Space Center Houston.

These mini-courses offer topics of study that include in-depth analysis of architecture, art, science, environmental studies, history, problem solving, technology, space, inventions, drama, literature, business and cultural awareness.

The Elementary GT Program - Grades K - 5

Students in the district’s Elementary Gifted and Talented Program, grades K- 5, are cluster grouped and receive differentiated instruction in the core content areas with a classroom teacher who has at least 30 hours of gifted awareness training, plus the required 6 hour annual update.

In Grades K-3, gifted students participate with a GT Specialist in a program on their campus; designed to provide challenging activities in seven strands: creativity, problem solving, research, communication, thinking skills, affective thinking, and leadership training.

In Grades 4-5, gifted students receive differentiated instruction in the regular classroom, attend sessions on campus one semester, and attend their chosen off campus GT mini-course the other semester.

The Omega Program - Grades 6 - 8

Gifted and Talented students in grades 6 - 8, who prefer to attend their neighborhood schools may participate in the OMEGA Program.

The goal of the OMEGA Program is to offer an interdisciplinary learning environment and curriculum geared to the special academic needs of the gifted and talented and highly capable child. OMEGA classes are taught by teams of teachers who are trained to work with gifted students. The academic core of the OMEGA Program is pre-AP language arts, pre-AP science and pre-AP social studies. Opportunities for math acceleration are available to fit each individual student's need.

All students who have been identified by the Clear Creek ISD Gifted and Talented Education Program automatically qualify for the program and are accepted when the application has been completed. The placement of highly capable students is a campus-based decision contingent on the number of identified GT students who will be attending that intermediate campus and the student’s matrix score. The application requires parental approval.

Applying students will be evaluated by a matrix that includes the first semester fifth-grade averages in Language Arts Composite, Science and Social Studies. Fourth grade TAKS scores in Total Reading andTotal Writing will be included. Additionally, fourth grade yearly grade averages in Language Arts Composite, Science, and Social Studies will also be considered on the matrix. Our goal is to gather a broad range of information to best meet the academic needs of the student.
