Robotics meeting tonight at the TLC to discuss the new game for FLL starting at 7:00

This program teams NASA engineers with students from all three high schools in the district for the purpose of designing, constructing, and testing a robot. The robot and team will then compete in a sports like event against regional and global teams, under the guidelines set by the FIRST Organization. The sole purpose of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recoginition of Science and Technology) is to inspire today's youth to become involved in math, science, technology, and to get exposure to engineering. Dedicated students, teachers, and engineers spend six weeks and long hours constructing a new robot to compete in this years events.

Students from CBHS, CCHS, & CLHS are currently involved in robotics.

* In March 2002, the Robonauts with the robot Valkerie won 2nd place overall at the Lone Star Regional competition held in Houston,Texas. Team 118 also won the regional Motorola Quality award and the Xerox Creativity award. The team then traveled to Orlando Florida for the First Robotics National Championship to compete against 291 teams from around the United States and some from other countries. Team 118 won first place in their division, allowing them to advance to the finals. In the finals tournament the Robonauts placed 3rd overall. At the awards ceremony the team was presented with trophies for winning 1st in their division and Finalists Medals for team Members. The team was also selected as the National winner of the Johnson and Johnson Sportsmanship award.*

In 2003, the Robonauts with the robot Immobilus fought their way to 2nd place at the Lone Star regional competition. The Robonauts were Regional Finalists, won the Motorola Leadership in Controls award, and won the most prestigious award, the Regional Chairmans award. At the National Competition in Houston the Robonauts were 3rd place out of 23 for the National Chairmans Award and were awarded a Judges Award for outreach activities!

In 2004, the Robonauts built a robot named Telescorpio, which had an awesome "crab" drive and a 16 foot arm! The Robonauts went on to win the Engineering Inspiration award at the Lone Star regional competition. At the National Championship at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta the Robonauts were very competitive in the Newton division.*

The 2005 game is called Triple Play. This year, the robonauts built the mighty Chainzilla, which used the great "crab" drive system, combined with dual phumatic powered arms and a elevator/ turrent system. At Lone Star regional, Chainzilla dominated the competion and won the prestiged "Chairmans Award" for the second time in Robonauts history. Combine that with the Industrial design award and the Woodie Flower's award(won by our head mentor). As Team 118 arrived at National's in Atlanta,Georgia, they came as the top at the power ranking world wide. Even though they were semi-finalist's in their division, Robonauts received a honorable mention for their chairmans effort.

The 2006 , the competition was called "Aim High', in which it involved shooting foam balls through basketball type hoops. This year, the Robobnauts built Magnum, a crab drive based robot that can carry and shoot the foam balls with amazing accuracy. At the national championship in atlanta, georgia, team 118 put up a good display of gracious professionalism as we battled in the division semifinals.

Keep up the outstanding work Robonauts...
