We are not cows, sows, or plows; we are the Clear Brook FFA. FFA is an
organization that helps you in many ways. In leadership, responsibility, and
determination. It offers scholarships for college, a chance to meet other
people, and to have fun among other things.
In the FFA you have a chance
to raise animals such as steers, heifers, goats, lambs, turkeys, rabbits, pigs,
and chickens. It’s quite an experience to be able to raise these animals. Then
there are the shows that you enter like the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,
the CCISD show, and the Galveston County show. If your animal places at the show
you can sell your animal at the auction and the prices can range from hundreds
to thousands of dollars. You can also enter projects from Ag Mechanics and
Horticulture in the CCISD show. If you would like to raise an animal but don’t
know where to keep it, CCISD has supplied a barn for us to keep the animals next
to the Clear Creek High School.
Besides raising animals, there are other
activities such as rodeo day, which is where we take our animals to an
elementary school to talk about our animals. We have community service projects,
which are needed to get into college. Some of the community services are highway
cleanups and workdays at the barn. Along with everything else, we have
leadership and judging teams that compete in district, area, and state
competitions. Some of the teams are Poultry, Livestock, Equine (horse),
Horticulture, and Dairy Foods. We get to travel a lot during the school year.
Some of the places we go are colleges such as Tarleton State University,
Clarendon, and West Texas A&M. We have also traveled north to the panhandle,
to Louisiana and Kentucky.
In the FFA we have a hot dog social that
helps you to meet everyone. We also have a lock in. And once a month we have an
FFA meeting, which everyone is invited to attend, so we can talk about important
issues coming up.
FFA is a lot of fun. You learn a lot of things from
the organization and it can be really helpful for getting you into college and
earning scholarships. FFA has made a big change to many students’ lives. It is
always fun! So why not join the FFA and get branded by success.
