Clear Brook’s Speech & Debate squad split this past weekend to attend two tournaments simultaneously and returned home with their biggest haul of trophies yet with 29 total, including 2 Sweepstakes trophies!! A partial squad attended the Texas Forensic Association University of Houston tournament this past weekend, October 12-13 and garnered a total of 11 trophies. Among the winners at this tournament include:

• Brandon Wardlaw: 2nd Championship Lincoln Douglas Debate, 2nd Foreign
Extemp Speaking and 5th Impromptu Speaking
• Karl Shaefer: 2nd Championship Cross Examination Debate
• Lindsay Bernsen: 2nd Championship Cross Examination Debate
• Nikita Puzanenko: 1st Championship Lincoln Douglas Debate
• Talya Lazerus: 6th Original Oratory and 6th Domestic Extemp Speaking

Additional trophies include speaking awards for Brandon Wardlaw who won 1st place in LD Debate and Lindsay Bernsen who earned a 2nd place speaking award for CX Debate. As a 6 member contingent, the students attending University of Houston brought home a 3rd place overall debate Sweepstakes trophy. Due to this outstanding showing for a small group, Clear Brook now has a total of five students qualified for the State Texas Forensic Association Meet in March! Qualifying at this tournament include Lindsay Bernsen, Karl Schaefer and Nikita Puzanenko. Brandon Wardlaw, already qualified for state in LD Debate added Foreign Extemp qualification to his growing list of achievements.

At the same time, a larger portion of Clear Brook’s Speech & Debate squad attended a UIL tournament at La Porte High School from where they returned with a total of 18 trophies, including a Sweepstakes trophy. Earning recognition at La Porte include:

Storytelling and Best Actor
• Caren Abousaab: 1st Impromptu Speaking
• Matt Garber: 1st CX Debate
• Brittny Johnson: 1st CX Debate, 1st Original Oratory, 4th Music Interp and Best Speaker Overall
• Dinusha Wijesinghe: 4th Extemp Speaking, 2nd CX Debate
• Bailey Sincox: 2nd CX Debate
• Jessica Cetrone: 3rd CX Debate
• Kelly Hogg: 3rd CX Debate
• Raveena Bhalara: 1st Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate, 2nd Original Oratory
• Squad: 2nd place overall Sweepstakes Award
