General School Data

Clear Brook High School students continually distinguish themselves in all aspects. The success of the school is mainly due to the emphasis on student and faculty excellence. In both academia and athletics, Clear Brook continues to be progressive.

Clear Brook students are recognized by the University Interscholastic League and the Scholastic Merit program. They receive state titles in athletic and academic competitions. Clear Brook students receive scholarships from many foundations and companies.

Clear Brook athletic teams have competed on the state level in girls’ water polo, swimming, diving, tennis and girls track. Boys’ basketball, tennis, football, and golf have achieved district and regional championships along with girls’ basketball and soccer. Cheerleaders and the Celebrities dance team have also distinguished themselves in numerous contests.

In many prestigious competitions, the Fine Arts department at Clear Brook has proven its skill with individual and group award winning performances. The choir, orchestra, and band have also competed in state level competitions. Groups, which have succeeded in regional contests are drama, debate, Latin club and the publication staff. The Academic Decathlon Team and Texaco Star Academic Challenge team have been successful at the state and national levels. Our DECA club also had a state winner that progressed to the national level.

Clear Brook has many organizations, clubs and extra-curricular activities. The school also has booster groups to help support the organizations and the athletic teams.

Clear Brook is becoming known as one of the top 5A schools in the state as a result of distinguished academic and athletic accomplishments since August 1988. For the 2003 - 2004 school year, the total enrollment was 2,557. Of this total, 752 were freshmen, 650 sophomores, 620 juniors, and 535 seniors. Approximately 13% of the students are Asian, 12% are Black, 14% Hispanic, .16% Indian, and 60% are Anglo. Each year, foreign exchange students attend Clear Brook and receive the sense of unity and togetherness the student body portrays.

Clear Creek Independent School District boundaries embrace 120 square miles of southern Harris County and northern Galveston County. Clear Brook High School rests on the outskirts of Friendswood, a middle to upper-middle class suburban city. Friendswood is adjacent to Clear Lake City where the Johnson Space Center is located. The educational background of the residents of Friendswood varies with the majority of parents having received some post-secondary education.

Faculty

Clear Brook is staffed with a head principal, four grade level principals, a head counselor, four grade level counselors, a testing coordinator, a special programs counselor and principal, a student support counselor and 287 full time faculty members to further the education of students both academically and emotionally. A student support program began in the spring of 1992 with a coordinator/counselor who trains group facilitators to work with students who need special services. Two liaison officers are employed by the school to enforce the safety on the campus for students, faculty, and administators. Clear Brook's faculty has earned degrees as follows: Doctorate - 3, Masters - 65, Bachelors - 82.

Pre-Advanced Placement

Pre-Advanced Placement courses for grades nin and ten are : English I, English II, Computer Science, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Biology I, Chemistry I, Physics, World Geography, World History, French, German, Latin, Spanish and Art.

Advanced Placement

Several of the above Honors classes offer Advanced Placement (AP) credit. These are English III, English IV, Physics II, Biology II, Chemistry II, US History, US Government, Economics, Calculus, Art, Spanish IV, and Computer Science.

COURSE LEVELS
Clear Creek Independent School District provides a variety of levels for course instruction.

Regular - Regular courses are the courses in which teh greatest protion of a student body enrolls.
Advanced Academics(Acad) / Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) / Advanced Placement (AP)-ordinarily used in Universities.
Res(S) - resource courses are Special Edcation courses that require an ARD committee decision. They are designed to emphasize practical applications in teaching strategies to provide for individualized instruction.

CLASS RANK

Rank in class is based upon point average. Rank is determined by dividing the total numer of grade points earned by the total number of semesters attempted and adjusting it to a maximum of 4.5.
