Project Lead The Way In future years there are plans to offer additional courses in Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Aerospace Engineering. If students are interested in science, technology, and/or math, Engineering may be a field for you and Project Lead The Way can help students figure that out. PLTW is a nationwide organization whose goal is to: “Prepare an increasing and more diverse group of students to be successful in science, engineering, and engineering technology.” To achieve that goal, PLTW has developed a series of high school electives, designed to introduce students to the field of engineering. Students start by taking Introduction to Engineering and Design (IED). This is the introductory elective, and the prerequisite for most of the other PLTW classes. It teaches a basic design process, drafting skills, and 3D solid modeling. From there students can take Digital Electronics (DE) or Principles Of Engineering (POE), depending on whether you are more interested in electronics or mechanical devices.
