Falcon Pass Elementary

Voyager Choir

Handbook

Membership

At Falcon Pass Elementary, membership in the Choir program is an honor that should not be taken lightly.  We expect the best from our choir members, because they ARE the best!  Many of our choir members excel in other areas around our school such as math, reading, science and many after-school activities.  We feel this is good but we also feel that because choir is a school function, it needs to be given priority when it comes time for rehearsals or performances.

Expectations

1.    Be in your seat and ready to begin on time.

2.    Have your materials with you at EVERY rehearsal.

3.    Follow Directions

4.    Hands, feet and objects should be kept to yourself.

5.    No talking between songs.

Behavior should never be an issue during rehearsals and performances for any choir student.  If it becomes an issue during rehearsal time, the student’s name will be recorded.  Should any name be recorded three times, that student will be asked not to come to choir any longer.

Parents will provide transportation to and from rehearsals or performances as needed according to our performance schedule.  Students need to be picked up promptly when rehearsals occur after school.  We have appointments and responsibilities after school hours that require our attention just like you.  Please keep this in mind.  If you see that you are running late, please contact us at school (281-286-2868) or on Mr. Parker's cell (713-208-8963)   and let us know.

Rehearsals

Rehearsal times will be as follows:

¯   Tuesdays   Before school from  7:15 – 8:10 am

¯   Thursdays  After school from  3:15 – 4:15 pm

There will be times closer to performances when we will need to put both groups together. I will provide a calendar to help you plan for those times.  If you do not get a hard copy at home by way of your 4th or 5th grade messenger, you can check the Falcon Pass website through www.ccisd.net and click on our Music page's link for choir. I will have our calendar and other important information posted.

Attendance

Each member is as important to the choir as a baseball player or soccer player is to his or her team.  Without each person doing his or her best to help the team succeed, we can’t be a winning team.  Every person in the choir is needed to help make the choir a success.

Attendance will be taken and recorded at the beginning of each rehearsal.  Any student with an excess of four absences during a semester will be dismissed.  Students will receive a reminder at the second and fourth absences.  At the time of the fifth absence, the student will receive a dismissal note.  Re-admittance into the choir will be on a case-by-case basis and is entirely up to the director.

Uniforms

When you are a part of a team there is normally a uniform that identifies you as a member of that team.  We want everyone to know that we are a part of the best choir in Clear Lake, so we need to have a uniform!  Our choir uniform will consist of:

Boys- Khaki slacks, Choir shirt, dress shoes and socks.  PLEASE, no tennis shoes or sneakers.

Girls- Khaki skirt or "skort," choir shirt, dress shoes, socks or hose.  PLEASE, no tennis shoes or sneakers.

Generally the khaki skirts and pants are available in the school uniform section of most department stores. Catalogue stores such as Penney’s would also be a good source for these items. We will place an order for a monogrammed choir shirt to complete our outfits.

Awards

At the end of the year I will have participatory certificates for all students who are a part of the choir throughout the entire performance season.  These certificates will be awarded at our annual awards ceremony.  Additionally, I will be looking throughout the year for two outstanding choir members to whom I will give a special award at the awards ceremony.

Performance Dates

We would welcome any invitations to sing that come our way.  For performance dates or any other information pertaining to choir news, please see the choir calendar, either on your hard copy or on the website.

Volunteers

I would welcome any help I can get from interested parents.  A few minutes out of your week could be an invaluable help to me as I try to keep myself and everyone involved organized.  Here are some ways you might be able to assist with the choir here at Falcon Pass:

ü      Help with attendance/roll

ü      Help with taking up money for uniform shirts

ü      Help in ordering and communicating with the shirt company

ü      Help keep me organized and on the ball with the website

ü      Accompanist, anyone?

ü      Rehearsal monitors  (more eyes = less off-task behavior!)
