First and Second graders looked
at art prints and discussed how artists show motion in their work. We
discovered that horizontal and vertical lines seemed to be still, but diagonal,
bent, and curved lines appeared to be in the middle of moving. Students then
used what they learned to draw pictures of horses, cows, or bulls, moving in
some way. We reviewed horizon lines as we gave the animals backgrounds. They
colored the pictures with oil pastels and finished them off with a
watercolor wash.
