Visual Art with Mrs. Sheridan

Students in Kindergarten and first grades have art once every other week for  one hour.  Students in second through fifth grades have art for fifty minutes every six school days.  We follow the CCISD Art curriculum and TEKS.  Students learn the elements and principals of art, art history, how to use various art materials and art vocabulary.  Whenever possible, the art curriculum is integrated with the subjects that students are learning in class.  We create using pencils, crayons, oil pastels, paint, paper mache, clay, yarn, recycled materials and anything else we can find!

Imagination Celebration

On the last Saturday in October, CCISD hosts Imagination Celebration. This free one-day event is from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Clear Brook High School. Children can create a variety of quality “make and take” art projects at one of the 14 art booths, tour the student art exhibits from each elementary school, or enjoy the cluster choir performances and musical demonstrations by students from each school. The instrument Petting Zoo is also present to give children a chance to experience symphony instruments first hand. Food and face painting are the only things you’ll pay for!

Earth Day

In early Spring, we will turn part of our hallway into a rainforest, wetland or coral reef to celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd).  Every student is involved in the creation of the huge exhibit, which includes murals, paper sculpture and paper mache sculptures.  Live fish, tadpoles, plants and nature sounds are added to complete the feeling of that special part of the Earth.  Check back in February for more information about this spectacular exhibit!

Student Art Show

In May we have our Student Art Show. This special show consists of each student’s very best work of art from the school year. Artwork is mounted or matted and hung with a typed information card describing the work.  Check back for more information about this amazing event!
