HOW WILL MY SON/DAUGHTER BENEFIT BY BEING IN HIGH SCHOOL JROTC?

  • Scholarships! By enrolling in ROTC, you increase your chances of receiving a 4-year scholarship to a college or university of your choice. Such a scholarship could have a value of $40,000. In addition to paying for your tuition, books, and lab fees, it pays you $100 a month to spend as you wish.
  • Service Academy nomination! If you are in JROTC, your instructor can nominate you for a service academy appointment reserved for JROTC cadets. A nomination, however, is only the first step: you still must compete for an appointment.
  • Advance placement in College ROTC! Without taking JROTC in High School, it will take you 4 years to complete the senior level ROTC program in college, which leads to a commission as a second Lieutenant in any branch of the Armed Forces. By taking advance placement credit toward the college ROTC program, you could be commissioned as a second Lieutenant in just two years instead of the four that is normally required.
  • Advance Promotions and Pay! For those who voluntarily enlist in any one of the military services or if the draft was ever reinstated, it is possible to receive advance rank to, PVT2 (E-2), or Private First Class (E-3) based on their years in High School ROTC. This would mean an increase in the individual’s monthly salary of OVER $300.00.
