North Pointe Elementary Named National School of Character

NSOCCharacter.org, the nonprofit organization that validates character initiatives in schools and communities around the world, named North Pointe Elementary in Clear Creek ISD as a 2018 National School of Character. This is the second time the school has received this designation and is one of only 73 schools across the U.S.

“North Pointe is so proud to earn the distinction of National School of Character for the second time,” Principal Jennifer Buckels said. “It takes a lot of hard work on the part of our teachers, students and parents to re-apply for the national designation every five years.”

The school also received a Promising Practice award for 2018 for their program called “Rocket Boosters,” which is a peer mentoring program that benefits students from all different backgrounds. According to Character.org, recipients of Promising Practices are awarded because the schools planned and implemented unique initiatives that foster collaboration and good character building.

“Character education is very important to us and we are honored to be a leader in the district in this area,” said Buckels. “We take pride in our character journey and can’t wait to see where the road will continue to take us at North Pointe.”

Since the inception of Character.org’s Schools of Character program in 1998, 547 schools and 35 districts have been designated as National Schools or Districts of Character, impacting more than 3 million people’s lives. Criteria for selection are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, a framework to assist schools in providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.

Character.org will honor the designated schools and districts at its 25th National Forum on Character to be held October 4-7, 2018, in Washington, D.C. Visit www.character.org to learn more about the National Forum and the Schools of Character program.
