On October 22, 2006 our community celebrated the dedication of a new campus and the legacy of a Clear Creek visionary.
George W. Robinson is considered to be one of the founding fathers of the Clear Creek Independent School District. Mr. Robinson served as an elected official of the school district for many years. He first served on the Seabrook Independent School District Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the consolidation of the Clear Creek Independent School District. He then served on the CCISD school board for 12 years, six of those years he served as president.
Dr. N.E. Dudney credited Mr. Robinson for having the foresight to create a district where quality teachers were hired, the best books and curriculum were bought, and much of the land where many of our schools now sit was purchased.
Dr. Dudney (in an article with the Citizen newspaper) credits Mr. Robinson’s vision for quality schools as one of the reasons NASA chose this area for its present location. He joins many other school board members who have had schools named after them such as Whitcomb, Hyde, and Ross, as well as a community member and friend, Walter Hall.
Along with this, Mr. Robinson has supported CCISD and its schools in many other ways. He was very involved with the Clear Creek FFA and many times purchased the grand champion steer. He was one of the original members of the Clear Creek Education Foundation. Through his company, he supported many educational programs at Bay Elementary. He was very proud that seven of his great grandchildren attend school in CCISD including Bay Elementary, Seabrook Intermediate, Falcon Pass Elementary, Ward Elementary Clear Lake City Intermediate, and Clear Brook High School.
G.W. Robinson, and his wife Iva, moved to the Seabrook area in the late 1930’s. They originally lived in what is now Taylor Lake Village before moving to Old Seabrook where they lived the reminder of their lives. Iva Robinson taught school for many years in the Texas City Independent School District. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson both devoted their lives to the educational achievement of children whether it was their children, grandchildren, or children in the community.
Sadly, G.W. Robinson died on November 11, 2005 and never knew that a school would be named in his honor. His family is very proud that his many years of hard work and dedication are being honored in such a wonderful way.
