Marathon Kids Kick-Off Event
Congratulations to the following Elementary Schools who attended the Marathon Kids Kick-Off Celebration. Marathon Kids® is a ten-year-old, nationally recognized, school-based fitness program. Marathon Kids is a free, endurance-building running - walking - nutrition - gardening program for kindergartners through 5th graders. The kick-off event was held Saturday morning at Rice University. Schools participating in the event were:
- Bauerschlag Elementary
- Weber Elementary
- Ross Elementary
- Brookwood Elementary
- Hall Elementary
- Clear Lake City Elementary
- North Pointe Elementary
- Robinson Elementary
- Landolt Elementary
- Goforth Elementary
- McWhirter Elementary
- Greene Elementary
- Whitcomb Elementary
- White Elementary
The Kick-Off involved 3 other school districts (Houston, Fort Bend, & Spring Branch) with Clear Creek ISD having over 1800 registered runners. Students, parents, and coaches ran 1/3 of a mile to officially kick-off the 26 week program. Marathon Kids participants received a Marathon Kids water bottle and the opportunity to get autographs from NASA Astronauts as well as Rice University Athletes. CCISD also had 2 of their students chosen to be a part of the flower ceremony which was held prior to the actual running.
There will be a Final Mile Run where participants will receive a medal rewarding their tremendous effort. Congratulations to all students/coaches involved.
