Exemptions

The only authority that can grant any exemptions for Clear Creek ISD school taxes is Galveston Central Appraisal District (Galveston CAD), not the Clear Creek ISD Tax Office. This also applies to Harris County properties that fall within CCISD boundaries. Harris County residents will need to apply for exemptions at both the Harris and Galveston Central Appraisal Districts. You should only have to apply for exemptions on your current residence once.

The exemption should remain intact unless you make major improvements to your property, move, sell your property, you are a surviving spouse and/or if the appraisal district requests a new application. Exemptions are not automatic; they require action on the part of the property owner.

Homestead Exemptions

If you owned and lived in your home on January 1 of a tax year you are entitled to a homestead exemption. If you move into your home anytime after this date you will not receive this exemption until the following year. The CCISD portion of the exemption allows you to reduce your taxable value by five percent or $ 5,000, whichever is greater.

The state portion of the exemption allows you to reduce your taxable value by $15,000. A homestead exemption only applies to the home you live in and is not limited to a house. A mobile home or condominium can also get a homestead exemption if it is your primary residence. A homestead is not applicable to second homes or land.

Over 65/Disability Exemption

If you turn 65 at any time during the tax year you are entitled to an Over 65 Exemption. If you have been declared disabled by the Social Security Administration, you may be entitled to a disability exemption. These exemptions work in conjunction with your homestead exemption and allow you to reduce your taxable value by an additional $28,330 and freeze your taxes at the value and tax rate for the year, your Over 65 Exemption or Disability exemption was granted.

Your taxes will remain frozen at this amount; until such time that you no longer own the property or major improvements are made to your property. Such as: new pool, extra bedroom, garage, etc. Texas only permits a taxpayer to use either the Over 65 Exemption or Disability Exemption, not both. Either exemption is only available on your primary residence and can not be use on second homes or land.

The Over 65 Exemption or Disability Exemption also allows you to pay the taxes in four equal installment payments. Only persons with these exemptions qualify to pay in installment payments. The tax bill is split into four equal installment payments. The payment dates are January 31, March 31, May 31 & July 31.

There is no charge to use the installments. But please note that all payments must be made on time. If you fail to make your payment by the due date, penalty and interest will be added for each month your payment remains unpaid. It is also important to note that if you fail to make your first payment by January 31st that the installment payment option is void and the full amount of taxes and any penalty and interest is due in full.

The installment payment option is often referred to as quarterly payments. The term quarterly refers to the tax bill being split into four equal payments (quarters) not the date of the payments.
