When the dust cleared after the 2010 UIL District competition, members of the Clear Lake High School and Clear Brook High School Speech and Debate Teams qualified for the state tournament.
The cross-examination team of Kiersten Strachan and George Liu placed 1st overall and the team of Andrew Casso and Nishant Jayant placed 2nd. The Clear Lake students will be attending UIL State in Austin March 18th – 20th in Austin, Texas. This is the second consecutive year that Clear Lake has qualified teams to attend UIL State and win the 24-5A CX Debate Academic Award. The squad is coached by Martha Anne Pierson.
The Clear Brook team of Kelly Hogg and Karl Schaefer won 3rd place in CX debate at UIL, resulting in alternate status for the UIL State CX meet to be held in Austin during Spring Break. Clear Brook students competed the same weekend at Lamar High School. Andrew Kocen won 2nd place in CLD debate, which qualifies him for TFA State. Raveena Bhalara and Neil Patel also earned points toward their state goals in LD debate. Kim Maima and Saurabh Limaye won 1st and 2nd places in Impromptu Speaking. Limaye also went to finals in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, earning 1 state point. Clear Brook’s team is coached by Michael Rutledge.
