Digital Graphics and Animation

Digital Graphics and Animation is a one-year course that provides a foundation in the fundamentals of design within the art and graphic profession. Based on industry standards, the course covers graphic software, image scanning, digital editing, computer design basics, commercial art fundamentals and creative problem solving. Students will develop the basic knowledge, concepts, technical skills, and vocabulary necessary for computer digital illustration. Students will prepare a portfolio of their work.

Web Mastering I

This one year course includes a study of the impact of the World Wide Web on society, elements of web design, and website creation and management. Students will develop web content pages and sites primarily in HTML and become familiar with professional level web authoring software. The students will explore graphics creation, animation layout design, organization and site management, and publishing issues. The World Wide Web (WWW) is the fastest growing part of the Internet. The popularity of the WWW is due largely to the ease with which users can not only access and navigate the web, but also create pages of information to share with others. This course focuses on the ability to write code and to learn publishing skills by serving information on a web server. Ultimately, students, within an ethical framework, will gain the tools to become webmasters for the class, school, district or beyond and thus participate in a global community of learners and collaborators.

Web Mastering II

Notes: $10 Fee; Meets technology credit requirement better or demonstration of HTML mastery via a website project.
This one-year course is a continuation of Web Mastering. Through independent projects, students will develop professional web sites incorporating advanced design and layout. Students will use JavaScript, Flash animation, CGI, Stylesheets, and DHTML to develop complex web pages. Students will create web pages to insert, delete, and sort database applications.
Other requirements include:
• Students will develop a project that adds to the school’s Web Mastering “knowledge base” via an on-line tutorial.
• Collaborate with either outside companies or service organizations in developing professional on-line solutions.
• Develop outside/independent projects incorporating advanced techniques.

Students will apply technical skills to address the emerging game industry. Students will develop a foundation in a game programming language and study the technical, economical, financial, international, social, and ethical aspects of the gaming industry and the aspects to become competent consumers, employees, and entrepreneurs. Students will learn various standard programming languages used in game development and virtually reality simulators.

Introduction to Media Technology

Intro to Media Technology introduces the student to all phases of the television field and studio production including concept development, scripting, preproduction, camera work, editing, sound mixing, and postproduction. Emphasis will be on the various technologies associated with video production. Students will be provided with an overview of the media industry and will learn the basic create, edit, and render skills needed to design and produce multimedia presentations that use video and audio resources.

Instruction includes operation of different types of cameras, mastery of audio techniques, electronic editing, creation of television graphics, lighting, script writing, direction, production, special effects, signal control and monitoring equipment, and set design. Editing will be performed in industry standard editing platform – Final Cut Pro. Students in Media Technology I will participate in the production of a campus broadcast. Students in Media Tech II will have the opportunity to be certified editors while still in high school.
