Frequently Asked
Questions:
Why does CCISD
want to move 150 plus children to North
Pointe next year from Weber Elementary?
Updated 3/6/08
The actual number of students being
moved from Weber Elementary to North
Pointe is 95 in the 2009-2010 school
year. North Pointe is projected to have
677 students for the 09-10 school year.
Capacity at this campus is for 885 students.
With the proposed boundary change this
would put North Pointe Elementary at
772 students for the 2009-2010 school
year.
Can a student
who will be moved to another attendance
zone due to boundary changes be "grandfathered"
to stay at their current school?
As stated in Policy FC(LOCAL), "When
a new school opens, students in its
attendance area shall be assigned to
the new school. Exceptions to this general
rule are as follows: (1) New high schools
generally open without a senior class;
therefore, seniors may remain at their
former schools. (2) When a new intermediate
school opens, returning eighth grade
students may continue at their former
school. Transportation shall not be
provided by the District."
Fifth grade students are not eligible
to stay at their original campus if
re-zoning affects their address. District
transfers back to the original campus
will be considered as long as space
and personnel are available to accommodate
the extra students.
How will the district's
boundary changes affect the location
of the hearing impaired programs?
The District has no plans to move the locations of any hearing impaired program currently housed on a CCISD campus. Specifically, the hearing impaired program at Creekside Intermediate will not be moved because of boundary changes.
Why is the
capacity at Creekside so much smaller
than the capacity at Brookside when
the schools look identical from the
front?
Creekside was built
as a MAGNET technology center and was
therefore intentionally built to house
less children. Although it was never
used as a technology center, these capacity
issues remain. Creekside currently has
only one portable building. Only one
more could be added which brings the
capacity to 800. Brookside currently
has 14 portable buildings. This brings
the capacity at Brookside to 1150. Brookside
currently has room for up to 250 additional
students.
Can all the
children on the west side of I45 and
south of the Clear Creek fit into the
one intermediate school that resides
in that section (Creekside)?
No, the current numbers
show 1,086 intermediate children in
this area. The projections show 1,155
for 2009 and 1,299 for 2010. Clearly
all of the students west of the interstate
and south of the creek can not fit into
Creekside which only has a capacity
of 800.
What are the
numbers that were used to develop these
new maps?
This SBAC began the
process of reviewing the Magellan report
numbers in October. Over the next three
months, the SBAC members and Magellan
identified errors and inaccuracies that
have been corrected. Magellan updated
the data (compared to the report that
had been published on the website in
October). The updated numbers for the
current school zones based on these
Magellan corrections has been published
to the website.
Should children
within CCISD be shipped across county
and city lines?
This is an interesting
question especially since CCISD encompasses
parts of 2 counties and 13 municipalities.
Children have been crossing county and
city lines for years within CCISD. For
instance, Autumn Creek and Heritage
Park in Friendswood, Harris County are
currently zoned to Clear Springs High
School in League City, Galveston County.
The proposed intermediate change is
consistent with this previous decision.
It also ensures about a 50/50 split
of students in Brookside Intermediate
to go to Clear Brook and Clear Springs.
Does the district
check residency status?
Yes, the district has
been aggressively pursuing residency
affidavits from all over the district.
The residency affidavit process originally
began at Weber. The process soon spread
through out the district and was being
handled by each individual school. Beginning
in the 2007-2008 school year, the process
was centralized, updated and moved to
the ESC. In August alone there were
1400 affidavits submitted to the district.
As part of the updated process these
1400 people were sent letters to renew
their affidavits in January. These letters
were sent out twice with students and
a notice was posted in the local newspaper.
Of these 1400, 700 have renewed to date.
