All CCISD students who wish to accept the challenge of a PreAP or an AP course are welcome to participate in the PreAP/AP program. Students and parents should be aware of the rigor in these courses so they can make informed decisions regarding course selection. PreAP and AP curricula are written two grade levels above traditional curricula. Instruction is fast-paced and much of the work is done outside of class. Following are some indicators of PreAP or AP candidates:

- Pre-AP = 2 years ahead (ELA); same scope & sequence w/ greater depth and complexity (M, Sc,SS)
- AP = College Level – Syllabus submitted to and approved by the College Board
- Academic, Performance, and Other Considerations
- Challenge and Rigor
- Sophisticated Academic Skills
- College Transition
- Economic Considerations
- Self-confidence
- Willing to take on the challenge
- Able to read perceptively and independently
- Able to write proficiently
- Able to think abstractly
- Greater depth
- More time
- More work
- May – Junior or Senior Year (9th grade – Human Geography; 10th grade – World History or European History)
- 3 hour timed test (objective and essay – no essay on Math)
- Cost = $56.00
- Scores range from 1 – 5; 3 is passing
- Depends on college or university
- Usually 3 – 6 hours of college credit
- Elective or otherwise
Considered only at the end of the first 6-weeks grading period
Grade must be lower than 75
Student must have:
Average from Pre-AP / AP course follows student
